Defragmentation

On your hard drive there are small pockets of space which are free for you to save files on. If you want to save a files the machine will  attempt to store it in a section of contiguous space that will be large enough to accommodate the file. If one pocket of data is too small to store the whole file, it will be broken up and stored in multiple locations on the hard drive. This means that whenever you will try to load a file or open a program that is installed on the hard drive it will take a longer time to open because it has to load the files from different locations. This will decrease the overall performance of your machine. Defragmentation can solve this problem. The main purpose of defragmentation is reorganise your files so they are all stored in the same location. This will help to maintain the performance of your machine because it will help to load files and programs faster.
